PROSTATE! PROSTATE! PROSTATE! A Problem of Men by Harold Usher and Dr. Joseph Chin

Belizean borned, London, Ontario City Councillor, Harold Usher, a Distinguished Toastmaster, a Professional Engineer and a prostate cancer survivor, has collaborated with renowned Canadian Urologist, Scientist and Professor, Dr. Joseph Chin, also of London, to write a new bold informative and inspiring book on the prostate, entitled "PROSTATE! PROSTATE! PROSTATE! A Problem of Men."

The book was written to encourage men to get a regular medical check-up (yearly) and to take action quickly when they are diagnosed with a prostate problem, particularly prostate cancer. It is an easy-to-read, caring and compassionate compilation of man's prostate, describing what's needed to be known after a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer, including therapeutic options. It is written for the benefit, reading pleasure and learning of all men, and all women who have men in their lives (since it is found in most cases it's the women who have to push the men to take action).

Harold Usher informs people that the book entails everything you ever want to know about the prostate, that pesky little chestnut shape organ situated below your bladder, between your pelvic bone and rectal wall, that provides the ingredients for making your babies. It is written so that a urologist, after diagnosing a man with prostate cancer, can give him a copy of the book and say, "You have prostate cancer, take this book and read it and come back and see me in three weeks," and on his return the man will have more intelligent questions to ask the urologist. He says everything the patient needs to know, to understand the problem, in order to formulate and ask those questions to subsequently make an informed choice of treatment decision, is included in the book. It does not replace what your doctor advises you. However, one should know this information before being struck with this dreadful disease, considering that one in seven men will have prostate cancer and 20% of them will die from it. Knowing what is written in this book may save your life, or your man's life.

Dr. Joseph Chin explains that the book is a "one of a kind," written in a simple style that is easily read and understood and easy to wade through. It takes a complex subject and simplify it for the ordinary layman to understand. It is written from the perspective of the patient and as such, it is of definite advantage for the patient. He also emphasizes it is imperative that men get a regular (yearly) medical check-up which includes a Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), and when diagnosed with a prostate problem, particularly prostate cancer, take action as quickly as possible.

PROSTATE! PROSTATE! PROSTATE! A Problem of Men, is an easy to read, informative, caring and compassionate journey of understanding of man’s prostate, one of man’s most important organs, bearing the responsibility for reproduction, yet very susceptible to potentially fatal diseases. This book explains the value of the prostate and the risks it faces, taking you on that journey with the authors, a prostate cancer survivor and a urologist. You may turn back, jump forward, or repeat specific chapters as you journey. Preview the book at: www.trafford.com/06-0700

More than 95 percent of men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and the women in their lives, find themselves wanting to understand more about available treatment, before they make their decision for choice of treatment. This book fills that information void by providing an abundance of information in an orderly fashion and helps with the understanding, education and relief.

Part I of the book (five chapters) addresses health habits and self-care, leading into nurturing the prostate and the benefits of nutritional supplements.

Part II (five chapters) is about the Prostate, the major role it plays in your reproductive system, the diseases that can affect the prostate and your quality of life.

Part III (10 chapters) deals with prostate cancer diagnosis, the steps taken to confirm that cancer is present, and its severity.

Part IV (seven chapters) deals with managing the condition, including your behavior tendencies, denial, breaking the news to family and friends, changing lifestyle and what the women in your life can do to help.

Part V (nine chapters) addresses the alternative treatment options, including the newest ones, and making the selection regarding treatment.

Part VI (nine chapters) addresses the surgery experience, hospital admission, treatment, what to expect, post-hospital care, subsequent visits to your urologist and finally recurrent cancer and salvage therapy.

Part VII includes the glossary, resources and index.

Recognizing that every man will have a problem with his prostate at some time in his life and that most men go into "denial" when it happens, the book is written for "all men" and "all women who have men in their lives" to empower men to take better care of themselves, get a regular medical check-up, and when they have an indication that something is wrong with their prostate, take action to have it treated or corrected promptly.

The book was written over a period of eight years and during that time was re-written at least seven times, as methodologies improved and new procedures, techniques, options and information became available. We know you will find it very helpful and strongly suggest you consider obtaining a copy for your personal library, because it is written so that you can have the information at your finger-tip when the necessity presents itself. And I have no doubt it will - it's just a matter of time. In fact, I suggest you purchase two copies and give one as a gift to someone in your life.

Read it and you will be inspired, then go on to love life and live it to its fullest in happiness and health.

Harold Usher, born in Belize and now a Canadian citizen, is a Distinguished Toastmaster; a Prostate Cancer Survivor; an Author; an Engineer; a Motivational Speaker; a Personnel Development Trainer and a City Councillor in London, Ontario, CANADA. He has been a Toastmaster since 1984 and served on the Board of Directors 1992-94.

In February 1998 Harold was diagnosed with prostate cancer and became concerned about his lack of understanding of his condition. He thenceforth embarked on a mission to fulfill two goals – to learn more about this dreadful disease that had invaded his prostate and to understand what treatments were available and which was best for him.

What he found out was stunning, to put it mildly, but real. He found out that: few people really think much about their health; most men are reluctant to submit to a medical check-up, especially if it includes a digital rectal examination; many men would prefer to not know if they have prostate cancer; few men understand their prostate, its location, function and significance; having prostate cancer does not mean death, if it is detected early and treated quickly enough; and there are several methods of treatments available for prostate disorders, but one best for your cancer. He also discovered that most of the time, it is the women in a man's life who has to take the bull by the horn and move them on to action, including subsequent visitation to the doctor after being diagnosed and acquiring reading and/or viewing material for further understanding of the condition.

As a result of his clearer understanding, Harold chose surgery as his preferred treatment option and underwent bilateral nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy in March 2000.

He subsequently incorporated his findings into this book to enlighten men, and women who have men in their lives, about the prostate. He offers them the many answers that he had wanted, but did not have at his fingertips. He tells frankly and simply what many doctors do not have time to tell, but what many doctors and prostate cancer survivors agree ought to be understood by the patient and his family.

This book makes an exceptional gift to any man in your life as well as to any woman who has a man in her life.

A woman who resides in Windsor, Ontario, whose husband was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, called me yesterday Wednesday October 1, 2008, and said she had just received a copy of this book from her sister-in-law here in London and she stayed up all night reading it. She was very impressed and wanted to know how she can transfer her husband's care to my Urologist here in London.

Another woman wrote me and said "I wish I had this book before my husband was treated with prostate cancer ten year ago."
