Harold Usher is a City Councillor in London, Ontario  CANADA  who, with his election in 2000, and re-elections in 2003 and 2006, became the first and only person of African/Caribbean ancestry or African Diaspora, to be elected to London City Council. He is a 1972 Civil Engineering graduate of  Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, CANADA. He worked for Bell Canada, in various Engineering/Management roles and levels for 24 years, then in 1996 he embarked on other career adventures. He is also a Distinguished Toastmaster, an author, an inspirational speaker and human resources development trainer, who believes that “service is the rent we pay for being on this earth.”

In 1996 he started his own Speaking and Training business, offering inspirational speaking to the public and human resources (personnel) development training to individuals and organizations’ staff. In 2000 he added the world of politics to his portfolio by entering the Municipal order of Government with his election to the City Council of London, Ontario, representing Ward 6 of that city. He was re-elected in 2003 to Ward 6 and again in 2006 to the newly formed Ward 12 (half of the previous Ward 6). He is currently seeking re-election to Ward 12 in the October 25, 2010 election.

Harold is an advocate for good qualirt lifestyle, including: lifelong learning, safety, healthy living, sustainable social and economic development,  human rights issues, anti-racism, anti-hate, diversity in the work place and workforce, opportunities for the disenfranchised, housing for the homeless and caring for the financially less fortunate, particularly youths, seniors, jobless, disabled, immigrants and foreign trained professionals whose trainings are not being recognized.  He believes that “faith in God gives meaning and purpose to Human Life,” and he works to “inspire and empower individuals to better their personal disposition.”  He is a role model and mentor to many and encourages others to do the same.
